general tips

You can keep some things in mind when submitting

  • This is a counter info for the area colonially known as british columbia. We may choose to share submissions from elsewhere, but you probably have a local counter info that would be a better choice than us.
  • Include a picture if possible. If you don’t we may add a generic one.
  • We may copy edit your submission.
  • Consider using https://cryptpad.fr/ and sending us a link.

security tips

We work to keep material secure on our end. However, our security won’t help you unless you take steps to protect your own security.

  • Don’t treat us like your friend. We don’t know eachother at all and you shouldn’t trust us.
  • Take some time to consider what you stand to gain from submitting to us and what you could lose. Make sure you are excited or prepared for the potential consequences.
  • Use TOR (https://www.torproject.org/download/) for your entire submission process.
  • Use a tool like EXIF Purge to remove metadata from any images you submit (https://www.exifpurge.com/)
  • Use Cryptpad. Do not use something like google docs.
  • If submitting via email…
    • Use a throwaway email account with none of your personal details attached.
    • Never login to the email without TOR or a trusted VPN.
    • Assume that the email provider will turn over any emails and metadata to law enforcement.
    • You can encrypt the email using our PGP key

complex submissions

As of Oct 2025 we have capacity to accept complicated submissions. This may change at any time. Examples of complex submissions

  • Includes your own Javascript code for visualizations (eg: rendering a map)
  • Requires us to produce visualizations or conduct further research (eg: you send us data and we write an article)
  • Requires us to run new software or services (eg: you need to run scripts to continually update an article)

We prefer to receive complex submissions over PGP encrypted email as they often require follow up. We hold a higher standard for these submissions and may reject them without rationale.
