It was announced this week that ground has been broken on the North Coast Transmission Line, with politicians and chiefs arriving to celebrate billions in “economic activity,” thousands of jobs, “clean power,” “reconciliation,” and the promise to “unlock” the north.
We’d like to share a recent notice spotted near Telkwa, a reminder that these projects are contested long before the ribbon-cutting ceremony. Some have taken it upon themselves to reject this familiar bargain. Their wires may be new, but the logic is old. The people who call this “nation-building” are asking us to sacrifice the territory now, accept the jobs as compensation, and call the destruction reconciliation. They are building infrastructure for extraction and asking us to applaud because the electricity is clean.
NOTICE
To all BC Hydro employees and subcontractors. Hundreds of trees have been spiked, and flagging pulled, within the NCTL ROW [right-of-way] between the 8km mark on Hydro Hill FSR and Telkwa River.
This is not a clean energy project, it only serves to electrify the actors destroying the land and each other: mines, LNG, AI datacentres, hydrogen, ports, and accelerated extraction.
Regardless of who owns it, it still cuts the land for the same murderous machine.
This future is not invertible.
It will be attacked.
